My Favourite On Line Fishing Shop has closed

Bennett's of Sheffield seem to have ceased trading, it's a pity they were a first class supplier. Over the years I've bought lots of equipment from them, their service was always first class, I suppose it's a sign of the times we 'live in'.

Nothing Happening on the Bridgewater Canal

Had a couple of hours on the Bridgewater Canal yesterday casting Spoons for Pike not surprisingly we didn't catch.We saw a Kestrel hunting but very little else. The Countryside is right in the middle of it's winter slumber and so is most of the wildlife.

We saw some nice boats moored up by Lloyd's Bridge. I thinK we'll have to wait till March before things come back to life. It was nice just to be out for a couple of hours, just the two of us.

Bridgewater Canal This Saturday

It looks like the ice has gone from the Bridgewater Canal so Owen and myself are going to chuck a few spoons about on Saturday,don't suppose we'll catch but it'll be nice to get out for the first time in ages.
The water should be very clear as no boats have been moving, so the spoons should be visible!
We'll give it a try around Oughtrington down towards Lymm, we've have a bit of sucess there in the past but not as early in the year as this!

Sea Fishing In Cornwall August 2010

Had an short trip on my brothers boat in Porth Gaven, Cornwall, back in the summer. Fished for Mackerel and we landed a few. Owen and Richard came out with us, both of them caught.

It was good to fish from a boat again, it's many years since I last fished from a boat.

Catching The Impossible

I watched 'Catching the Impossible' last night for the first time, what a wonderful programme. It features Bernard Cribbens and a younger Angler who's name I didn't catch. I think it's made by Hugh Miles, the chap who Made' A Passion for Angling', all those years ago, the programme that helped to 'get me' into Angling. I watched it on one of the Discovery Channels at 17.00.

Just a shame it's not on main stream television. Just like A Passion for Angling, it's beautifully made, I'm sure it would bring more people to Angling!

Checking my Fishing Tackle

I've been checking the fishing tackle I use for Tench and Bream. In previous years I've started fishing for Tench and Bream during April as the weather starts to improve. I need to buy a couple of items I lost last year.

I'll sort my Pike Lure tackle in the next week, I'll start to fish for the pike on the Bridgewater during March. I'll need a couple more of the Abu Garcia Perch Spoons, I'll also need to make some more Traces.

What will 2011 Bring

New Years day and I'm starting to think about the comming year.
I would like to connect with some nice Pike in the Bridgewater and some of the good Tench in Rixton Claypits.
Last year was a bit of a disaster, not much opportunity for fishing last year, I hope to put that right this year.
I would like to camp, up at Poynton and fish the Wide Hole if we get a good summer I'll take the family up there and give it a go, I always had good sport up there!
As things tighten up financially I will try to fish more locally, so Rixton will be one of my main targets!
